Connect forest, farm and reef

Jozani protects a mosaic of groundwater forest, coral-rag forest, mangrove and salt-marsh habitats. Spice farms reveal cultivated landscapes and difficult plantation history. Chumbe demonstrates how carefully controlled tourism can finance conservation and environmental education.

Conservation must benefit neighbouring communities

UNESCO records tourism, fishing, beekeeping and other nature-linked livelihoods around Jozani–Chwaka Bay. Responsible visits use local guides, respect working land and ask how fees support residents and habitat protection.

Do not cram every stop into one rushed tour

A short Jozani visit can pair with the southeast coast, while a spice experience fits naturally between Stone Town and northern beaches. Chumbe requires its own confirmed boat and access arrangement. Spreading them out creates a better journey and more local spending.
