Kibale National Park

Kibale protects a mosaic of mature forest, woodland and other habitats that supports chimpanzees, monkeys, birds and smaller forest life. Its appeal is not simply the number of chimpanzees; it is the chance to enter a living primate landscape with trained guides.

Standard tracking follows habituated chimpanzees and, once they are located, usually allows a defined observation period under ranger rules. The habituation experience is longer and follows the process of chimpanzees becoming accustomed to a careful human presence. Current start times, permit prices, age limits and health rules must be confirmed before travel.

Bigodi’s community tourism turns a forest trip into a wider local journey through wetland nature walks, village experiences, food, craft and community projects. It deserves its own time rather than being treated as filler between chimp activities.

The Ngogo chimpanzees became internationally known through long-term research and the 2023 documentary series Chimp Empire. The community numbered more than 120 before a major split, making it the largest known chimpanzee society at the time. Visitors should not be promised access to the documentary’s individual chimpanzees; Ngogo is presented as a science and conservation story.
