The Western Corridor follows river systems towards Lake Victoria, mixing woodland, open country and seasonal herd movement in a less uniform landscape.

What to know
- The Grumeti and Mbalageti shape the corridor
- Migration movement depends on rain
- Riverine forest adds habitat variety
- Western stays reduce long transfers from Seronera
A corridor towards Lake Victoria
The western arm of the park narrows around river and woodland habitats. It is part of the migration system, but its ecological value extends beyond the weeks when large herds are passing.
Read the Grumeti as a living river
Crocodiles and crossing footage attract attention, yet pools, forest edges and grazing areas make the river system useful to wildlife through changing conditions. Crossing opportunities remain unpredictable.
Give the west its own nights
A western base is often more sensible than repeatedly driving from Central Serengeti. Confirm current road and air access, especially when rains affect travel time.
